If you’ve gotten far enough into the Rogé Marketing site to be reading this, I thank you. Your attention and interest mean a great deal to me.
I recognize that my site is somewhat unusual. Because my business approach is very personal, my site reflects that with first-person references and a relaxed writing style. (I love to write feature stories and columns, which was my specialty in journalism school, so it’s just part of who I am.)
Why sci-fi?
You also may be wondering why I use a vintage science fiction theme in my logo and on my site. How does this genre reflect my brand? That’s a great question. Here’s my answer:
First, I’m a big nerd, and I have always loved science fiction and fantasy, especially old TV shows and movies. Star Trek. The Outer Limits. Forbidden Planet, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars. Fantastic Voyage, Planet of the Apes. (This list could go on and on.)
No doubt, my fondness for these shows and movies is also because I grew up when many of them were released. This genre is nostalgic for me. During my adolescence, I saw cinematic science fiction transform from being slow and ponderous to fun and exciting. I also saw science fiction change how we viewed the world, shifting our culture in profound ways.
But there’s a deeper reason I use this retro sci-fi theme in my branding.
Looking back to look ahead
The 60s and 70s were exciting times. The space race to the moon expanded all our horizons. As a culture we were looking to the future, dreaming about tomorrow.
As I look back, it’s clear that in some ways our visionaries were overly ambitious. We saw the year 2001 pass without space liners, spinning cities in orbit and manned missions to Jupiter. (Unfortunately, 2001 is most strongly remembered as a dark year in our nation’s history.)
But in other ways those vintage visionaries underestimated the progress we would actually make in just a few decades. Who could have foreseen a seemingly magical internet from which we can pluck answers from the air and connect with people and events across the globe in real time? Science fiction creators of that era couldn’t envision that in a couple of generations we’d all be wed to battery-powered slabs of glass and metal that can instantly transform into a communicator, a global database, a video player, a GPS navigator and hundreds of other useful tools.
As I look back on the 60s and 70s, I see how the real-world advances made by dreamers and hard-working people laid the foundation for where we are today as a global community. We should never forget that our fascination with space and technology led to modern-day miracles that we take for granted: microprocessors, software, and satellites.
The future is something we all share
That inspires me, and it leads me to wonder where today’s manmade creations will lead us in the future. It’s admittedly a somewhat frightening thought, but I hope and pray our wisdom and empathy for others will keep pace with technology, so we end up using these new tools for good. And that brings me back to Rogé Marketing and how this retro/future theme applies to what I’m hoping to do.
Now worlds await us all. And what each of us does in the here and now — if it helps others truly improve the human condition — has the potential to play a part in creating a brighter future. If I can lend assistance in helping your organization communicate the benefits you offer to help others, then my mission will have been fulfilled.
Through Rogé Marketing I can help you harness today’s marketing technology, using time-proven strategies grounded in decades of personal experience, to communicate to others how you can make their lives better.
I want to be your partner and help your business soar by connecting you with customers, existing and new, in more meaningful and creative ways.
So, here’s to our shared journey into the future. I’m thankful that you’re along for the ride. And I hope you’ll consider contacting me to see how I can help you.
